And why do I do this?
Hand on heart - I just love animals, and taking care of them is something I really enjoy doing!
I’ve been in the pet-sitting game with my friends and family for over 8 years, and honestly, it’s been one of the best rides of my life. Along the way, I’ve met a wild variety of dogs and cats - from feisty terriers with personalities as big as their barks, to nippy rabbits that munch through more carrots than Bugs Bunny.
I started taking bookings on Rover and via further recommendations, and honestly I did not realise how much of a demand there is! I have had bookings fly my way continuously since I started on there, and have since started onboarding new private clients to save both hassle, strict no-personal-contact Rover policies and those disgusting fees (ew).
Pet sitting isn’t just about showing up and doing the basics. For me, it’s a bit like being a pet detective 🔎, a cuddle expert, and sometimes a treat dispenser (okay fine, mostly a treat dispenser). I’m always paying attention to the little things that make each pet unique: which toy gets the tail wagging, the special way a cat asks for scratches, or the exact spot your dog loves to have scratched. Because when you can tune in to those finer details, you’re not just watching pets - you’re building a friendship and life-lasting bond.
And yes, I’m totally cool with the messy bits too. Litter trays? Bring it on. “Gifts” your cat drags in from outside half-dead? I’ve got a mop, dustpan and brush and a smile ready. Honestly, those moments are just part of the charm. They remind me how much pets love their humans - even if their way of saying “I love you” involves a half-chewed door frame or a surprise on the floor (or three).
Since I work fully remote during the week, I have the flexibility to really settle in and be present with your pets, not just pop in for a quick visit.
Now, here’s a (not so) little secret: I’m a bit of a dog (and cat!) fanatic... I’ve grown up with dogs practically glued to my side all being terriers (you know, those tiny bundles of attitude and endless energy), so I’m no stranger to attitude, sass, and that undeniable charm only those little guys can pull off (cue those puppy eyes!!) I get that each pet has their own quirks and moods, and that’s exactly why I love what I do. Whether it’s calming an anxious pup, throwing the perfect game of fetch, or being a comfy lap pillow for a snoozy kitty, I’m all in.
It means I get to stick around, keep their routine going, and provide that much-needed company - because let’s face it, pets are family, and they deserve the best care available to them.When I’m not busy being a professional pet pal, you might find me testing out new dog parks (quality control is a must), experimenting with pet treats (someone’s got to do it!), or swapping hilarious pet stories with fellow animal lovers.
